‘Abdu’l-Bahá

The son of Bahá’u’lláh, appointed to guide Bahá’ís and their communities worldwide after Bahá’u’lláh left this earth, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá was the Perfect Exemplar of the Bahá’í Teachings and the Center of His Covenant. His guidance continues to inspire and instruct Bahá’ís. 


• Born in 1844 in Iran

• Exiled with Bahá’u’lláh several times, finally to the prison city of ‘Akká (now in Israel)

• Head of the Bahá’í Faith beginning in 1892 

• Offered encouragement to Bahá’ís and oversaw establishment of the Faith in a growing number of countries

• Freed from confinement in advancing age, He journeyed to Europe and America in 1911–1913 to teach the Faith

• Broke ground in the Chicago area for the first North American Bahá’í House of Worship in 1912

• Advised early U.S. Bahá’ís in organizing conferences for racial amity and cooperation

• Passed away in Haifa, Israel, in 1921
